The Government of Canada proudly supports the Métis Nation Education Conference

OTTAWA, March 21, 2018  The Government of Canada recognizes that equity in education is critical to ensuring that Indigenous students receive the support and resources they need to reach their full potential. We will continue our important work with Métis Nation to advance their education priorities for the benefit of Métis Nation students and all Canadians.

Today, the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, proudly participated in the Métis Nation Education Conference. The Métis Nation is an active part of the comprehensive review of all federal Post-Secondary programs for Indigenous students and this conference is an example of the work and input that will help advance this priority. It is an opportunity to better understand the needs of students, set priorities and approaches to quality education and develop policy that meets the unique needs of the Métis Nation.

As we continue working in partnership with the Métis Nation towards a renewed relationship, we understand that much more needs to be done to respond to concerns of Métis Nation on education. As an initial step, Budget 2018 announced an investment of $10 million in 2018-19 to support existing Métis Nation endowments for post-secondary education.
