UpKeep Lands $10M in Series A Funding, Its Software Fills Void for the Deskless Worker and the 80% of Organizations using Manual Maintenance Management Tools

LOS ANGELES, March 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UpKeep Maintenance Management, the leading group collaboration and maintenance application for facility management teams, announced today that it has secured $10M in Series A funding, led by Emergence Capital. With more than 80 percent of organizations today using in-house spreadsheets, paper forms and other manual maintenance management tools, UpKeep fills the tremendous need deskless workers and their teams have for a shared, automated solution providing real-time mobile and desktop visibility into maintenance jobs.

The Los Angeles-based startup, a Y Combinator Winter 2017 alumni, has grown significantly in the three years since its founder Ryan Chan started the company in his mother's garage. It now serves more than 50,000 technicians across 1,000 businesses and counts Marriott, Jet.com, Unilever, McDonald's and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections among its customers.

Unlike competitive maintenance management offerings, UpKeep is built from the ground up as a mobile application for field and remote technicians to collaborate with their peers and managers. It allows workers to snap a picture of equipment needing maintenance, create a work order, and send it to be processed -- all from their mobile device. UpKeep also helps managers measure the cost of parts and labor, and the time it took to close out a project, giving businesses insight into maintenance expenditures.

Customers experience as much as a 90 percent reduction in the time it takes to complete maintenance jobs when using UpKeep.

"UpKeep saves us a tremendous amount of time. The paper system we had before required up to 80 hours to prioritize, assign, and review a work order. With UpKeep, technicians get instant maintenance notifications and assignments, so we're done with most projects in just a few hours start to finish!" said Ron Pembleton, Director of Engineering, Cincinnati Marriott Northeast. "UpKeep allows us to organize our maintenance projects, reminders, and notifications, and helps us maintain constant communication. UpKeep is like a flat-head screwdriver -- a simple tool that can be used for many different things!"

The company will leverage the financing to scale its engineering and product development efforts, and to build an online community for maintenance and reliability leaders to share updates and news. UpKeep raised $2.7 million in seed funding in June, 2017 from Battery Ventures, Mucker and Y Combinator. As part of this raise, Kevin Spain, General Partner, Emergence Capital, will join UpKeep's board.

"UpKeep has built a delightful, easy-to-use, mobile-first solution focused on helping deskless workers succeed by doubling their productivity," said Kevin Spain, General Partner, Emergence Capital. "UpKeep's software addresses the needs of remote technicians and their teams, a part of the deskless workforce which account for about 80 percent of workers worldwide. Until now, these workers have been forgotten by software companies, and have had to work with technology built decades ago. UpKeep upends the industry by radically changing and improving the way maintenance field technicians and their teams work."

About UpKeep Software
UpKeep Maintenance Management Software is the leading group collaboration and maintenance application for facility management teams. It was developed to empower the 9.9 million maintenance workers in the US to become more productive and receive recognition for the meaningful work they do -- work that is too often lost in a paper trail. UpKeep for iOS and Android are free mobile apps, designed for technicians in the field to access and communicate about their work on-the-go. UpKeep's premium subscription allows businesses to connect several facilities into a single UpKeep dashboard, giving managers a high-level overview of multiple facilities at once. UpKeep's pricing starts at $25 per month.

About UpKeep
UpKeep was started in 2015 by Ryan Chan while he working as a process-development engineer at a membrane manufacturing plant and saw the hurdles the organization faced recording and tracking its maintenance. Ryan set out to create a mobile-first, cloud based solution that would improve the productivity of maintenance teams, and the result was UpKeep. UpKeep now serves more than 50,000 technicians across more than 1,000 businesses and counts Marriott, Jet.com, Unilever, McDonald's and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections among its customers. The solution has been named a Top CMMS by Software Advicetm FrontRunners Report 2018 and a Facility Management Category Leader by Get App. The company is a Y Combinator Winter 2017 alumni, and Ryan Chan, its CEO, was named to Forbes 30 under 30 in 2017. UpKeep is based in Los Angeles, California.
