Ontario Police Street Checks Review to hold a public consultation in Hamilton, Ajax and Markham this week
TORONTO, March 19, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Justice Michael H. Tulloch, who is reviewing Ontario's Regulation 58/16 on police street checks, also known as carding, will hold public consultations this week in Hamilton, Ajax and Markham.
The schedule and locations:
Tuesday, March 20th, Hamilton Central Public Library, 55 York Blvd.
Wednesday, March 21st, Ajax Community Centre, 75 Centennial Rd.
Thursday, March 22nd, Markham Village Community Centre, 60411 Hwy 7
The consultation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. with a light supper available starting at 5 p.m.
The consultations will be streamed through the Review's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/StreetchecksReview.
Consultations have already been held in Thunder Bay, Brampton as well as three in the Toronto area. Four more will be held next month in Windsor, London, Ottawa and Sudbury.

The purpose of the public consultations is for Justice Tulloch to hear views from the general public and affected people about street checks. The Ontario Government established new rules for the practice on January 1, 2017, formally known as Ontario Regulation 58/16. At the consultations, Justice Tulloch would like to hear from the public about their views on street checks and whether the new rules under the Regulation are effective and being followed. Justice Tulloch's report on the Regulation, including his recommendations, is to be published no later than January 1, 2019.
Justice Tulloch will also hold meetings across the province with relevant groups such as police services, community groups, indigenous and other key organizations.
