MEDIA ADVISORY - Architect Farouk Noormohamed to speak on the impact that Architecture has on culture, the environment and society
BURNABY, BC, March 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Ismaili Centre Burnaby is pleased to announce the third in its series of Ismaili Centre Conversations on Citizenship, Identity, and Religion.
In a lively onstage conversation entitled Art of Heritage, prominent Vancouver-based architect Farouk Noormohamed will discuss how the best of architecture can take elements of the past and provide it with a contemporary expression that reflects who we are now.
Using examples such as Stanley Park in Vancouver and Al-Azhar Park in Cairo, Noormohamed highlights how our built environment can add life and vitality to a city, but also reflect our dearly held values ? in this case, the importance of spaces for community-building, renewal, and appreciation of the nature.
The session will be of interest to all those with an interest in the interchange between art, urban design, faith and modernity.
The conversation will be facilitated by Dr. Amyn Sajoo, Scholar in Residence at Simon Fraser University's Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies. The event is hosted by the Ismaili Centre Burnaby and co-sponsored by Simon Fraser University.
The 2018 Ismaili Centre Conversation Series aims to foster an understanding of critical issues by bringing together world-renowned thought leaders in lively conversation.

About Speaker:
Mr. Farouk Noormohamed was elected to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada's College of Fellows in 2013. Over the course of his career he has worked on an array of national and global sites, including the Aga Khan University (AKU) campus in Karachi, Pakistan and The Ismaili Centre Dushanbe in Tajikistan.
