LG Electronics Dehumidifiers World's First To Meet New Industry Sustainability Standard

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., March 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- High-performance dehumidifiers from LG Electronics are the first in the world to meet the requirements of the new Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) sustainability standard for household dehumidifier appliances, LG Electronics USA announced today.

High-performance dehumidifiers from LG Electronics are the first in the world to meet the requirements of the new Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) sustainability standard for household dehumidifier appliances.

The 70- and 55-pint LG PuriCaretm units (models UD701KOG3 and UD551GKG3 respectively) are the first dehumidifiers to achieve the demanding scores required to meet the new AHAM 7008-2018 Sustainability Standard for Household Dehumidifier Appliances,* according to CSA Group, which verified and issued the standard-compliance certificate following extensive testing and data analysis.

The lifecycle approach of the new dehumidifier sustainability standard addresses a product's environmental impacts in these key areas: materials, manufacturing and operations, energy consumption during use, innovation and end-of-life management. The new certification builds on a series of AHAM/CSA/UL product sustainability standards for use by consumers, retailers, governments, non-governmental organizations and others to identify products designed with the environment in mind.

"Environmental sustainability has become as important to our customers as it has been to our company for a long time," said Thomas Yoon, senior vice president and head of Home Appliances for LG Electronics USA. "LG is proud to be first in the industry with dehums verified to the new sustainability standard. Together with AHAM and CSA Group, LG is leading the way in addressing various aspects of the product's lifecycle."

In addition to bearing the recognized CSA Group certification mark for compliance, the LG dehumidifiers will also include the CSA Group sustainability mark that indicates to retailers, regulators and consumers that a product has met the environmental performance requirements for product specific sustainability as set forth in the AHAM/CSA/UL Sustainability Standard for Household Dehumidifier Appliances.

Leading Industry Sustainability Efforts

"As the first manufacturer to have dehumidifiers verified to this new sustainability standard by CSA Group, LG is demonstrating to consumers that this product meets the requirements of the standard throughout its lifecycle," said Gianluca Arcari, CSA Group's vice president, Home & Commercial. "CSA Group is committed to developing standards and testing and certification programs for sustainability that help manufacturers like LG support their environmental claims."

Together with AHAM, CSA Group worked closely with UL Environment and other stakeholders to develop the sustainability standard for dehumidifiers, which was officially launched today.

Announcing the publication of the new sustainability standard, AHAM President and CEO Joseph M. McGuire said, "As with the previous sustainability standards for refrigerators, clothes washers and cooking appliances, this new dehumidifier appliance standard is a concrete example of the appliance industry's commitment to sustainability. It provides a uniform measurement for retailers and consumers to compare product sustainability."

Combining Sustainability, Performance and Convenience

The ENERGY STAR® certified LG PuriCare dehumidifiers don't sacrifice performance or convenience for greener features. Easy-to-read LED displays allow users to see humidity settings and actual indoor humidity glance ? and the easy water bucket, tray handle and smooth rolling wheels make maintenance simple. The stylish dehumidifiers also feature washable filters, humidity auto control, full-tank alert, automatic shut-off and 12-hour timer.
