Summerland civic workers ratify new agreement


SUMMERLAND, BC, March 13, 2018 /CNW/ - Members of CUPE 1136 have voted overwhelmingly in favour of ratifying a new five-year agreement. The tentative agreement was reached last week after multiple bargaining sessions and the District of Summerland has also voted in favour of ratifying the agreement.

The new deal, which is retroactive to January 1, 2018, includes of wage increases of 2%, 1.75%, 2%, 2% and 2% in each year of the agreement. Other improvements include increases to shift premiums, boot allowance and probationary employee pay and also includes an agreement to explore flexible work schedules with the District.

"We are pleased to have concluded this round of negotiations and to have a new agreement in place that we believe benefits both workers and the community," says CUPE 1136 President Lionel Bruckal. "We look forward to continuing to partner with the District to provide quality community services to residents and businesses."

CUPE 1136 represents approximately 80 members who work in a wide range of departments including water and wastewater treatment, public works, engineering and recreation and also provide support and clerical services for the District and RCMP.
