Government of Canada supporting Mokami Status of Women Council services for Innu and Inuit Women in Labrador

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NL, March 13, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, MP Yvonne Jones on behalf of the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, congratulated the Mokami Status of Women Council on their successful proposal to provide tailored services to Inuit and Innu women in transition in their journey to improve their life circumstances in a culturally sensitive environment.

The Mokami Status of Women Council will receive funding to help address the lack of specific services available for Indigenous women in crisis in Labrador who are victim of violence/trauma. This program incorporates unique individualized plans tailored specifically for each woman in transition. They will also be given the tools to build support networks and, when ready, begin applying for job and training opportunities.

Indigenous Services Canada is contributing to this initiative through its Urban Programming for Indigenous Peoples.
