Advantest Installs Multiple V93000 Wave Scale Testers for Leading Chinese IC Designer Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA

TOKYO, March 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Leading semiconductor test equipment supplier Advantest Corporation (TSE:6857) has installed multiple V93000 Wave Scale RF testers at several outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facilities in China for use by  Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA, a world's leading fabless semiconductor company with advanced technology in mobile communications and IoT.  Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA has made the V93000 Wave Scale platform the tester of choice for its next generation of baseband, radio-frequency system-on-chip (BB RF-SoC) devices.

Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA has been using the V93000 test platform for several years, but this is the first time the company has selected the latest generation of V93000 Wave Scale instruments to test its newest chipsets for mobile communications.

The innovative architectures of Advantest's Wave Scale RF and Wave Scale MX channel cards enable highly parallel testing of current RF-SoCs at a minimal cost of test.  The cards also create paths for high multi-site-efficiency testing of ICs that will be used in upcoming 5G chipsets, including devices with LTE, LTE-Advanced and LTE-A Pro protocols for applications such as LTE-M, WLAN, GPS, ZigBee, Bluetooth and IoT.

"Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA is increasing all-round investment in 5G technology, aiming to be one of the world's leading 5G chipset brands," said Mr. Steven Yuan, Senior Vice President of Operations, Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA.  "With the leading test solution of Advantest, we found the production stability to deliver significant cost-of-test savings. The deepened collaboration will further support our advanced 5G roadmap and strengthen 5G deployment."

"This volume-purchase order represents several milestones for Advantest," said Hans-Juergen Wagner, Senior Vice President, SOC Business Group and Managing Executive Officer of Advantest Corporation. "It marks the 250th unit shipment of our Wave Scale cards, and Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA's first RF-SoC device to be successfully released to production on our V93000 Wave Scale RF platform. Customers throughout China are attracted by our Wave Scale testers' ability to handle a wide range of challenges, from IoT devices to high-end 4G carrier aggregation to future 5G semiconductors, and this is generating multiple system orders."

During the upcoming SEMICON China trade show on March 14-16 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Advantest's booth #4425 in Hall N4 will feature displays of advanced test systems and services for the Chinese semiconductor market.  An expert in test technologies will be on hand to answer customers' questions and exhibits will include the V93000 platform and Wave Scale channel cards.
