TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Management consulting firm North Highland is excited to announce its selection of United Way of the Big Bend (UWBB) as one of the firm's philanthropy pilot partners for 2018. UWBB currently works to improve the trajectory of thousands of vulnerable poor and low-income individuals across its eight-county footprint. North Highland's philanthropic mission is to disrupt root causes of poverty for underserved communities by applying consulting expertise in pro-bono pilot engagements across the firm's 23 markets in the U.S. and U.K. The firm intentionally seeks community partners for pilots that lead the charge for economic empowerment and can derive accelerated outcomes from the firm's consulting expertise. In 2017, North Highland launched five inaugural pilots.

"North Highland is a proud and longtime supporter of UWBB and we're delighted to partner with the agency in such a major undertaking," said Barbara Ray, Managing Director and Global Public Sector Lead. "Nothing is more important than ensuring all members of our communities have the opportunity for financial, job and housing stability, and by helping to strengthen the work of UWBB, we will ultimately improve the outcomes for thousands of vulnerable individuals and families."

"UWBB is thrilled to join with North Highland to create maximum impact through a shared vision and provide economic stability to thousands of vulnerable individuals right here in our community," said Katrina Rolle, President & CEO of UWBB. "By aligning priorities and desired outcomes, we will strategically shift the agency to create collaborative solutions and a positive impact for those living paycheck-to-paycheck from all walks of life."

"No one has their finger on the pulse of the challenges facing the working poor and those in poverty more than UWBB," said Berneice Cox, Board of Directors Chair. "On its face, it may seem that North Highland is simply providing us with advice. However, their impact will be felt in the bellies of children who finally don't feel hungry, in families freed of the fear of becoming homeless, in seniors receiving warm and nutritious meals and in the progress of students who no longer struggle to read. Simply put, North Highland's partnership with UWBB will change lives."

"North Highland has a stellar reputation of not just playing an active role in the communities they serve through volunteering and philanthropy, but also as thought leaders," said Skip Foster, incoming Chair of the UWBB Board of Directors and Publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat. "It will be a great value to be able to work with experts who have the knowledge and the heart to take United Way to the next level. With North Highland's help, I'm confident that the best is yet to come."

Founded in 1943, UWBB brings together people, resources and organizations from across the community who share a common vision and has the energy, expertise and resources. The pilot will address community impact strategies to bring lasting change in Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor and Wakulla counties.
