Government of Canada celebrates International Women's Day 2018 - #MyFeminism
OTTAWA, March 8, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Status of Women, today issued the following statement:
"On International Women's Day, all Canadians are invited to celebrate women's contributions to our country. While we have made significant progress toward achieving gender equality, we know much more work is needed to end discrimination, toxic workplaces, and gender bias throughout our society.
"This year's theme for International Women's Day is #MyFeminism, in recognition of the role that feminism continues to play in bringing about positive change here in Canada and internationally, while building a more equal, secure, and prosperous world.
- #MyFeminism is inclusive ? it is about equality for all women and people of all genders.
- #MyFeminism is intersectional ? it is about empowering women and girls, and people of all genders, no matter the complexity of their experience, to speak up and make their voices heard. It is as diverse as Canada.
- #MyFeminism is about possibility ? because when we work together and truly value what we each bring to our country and the world, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
"On International Women's Day, it is fitting to recognize that Canada is being seen as a world leader on gender equality. Our Government is demonstrating how empowering women and girls improves the social, economic, and democratic life of our country. But to make even more progress, all those in decision-making positions must listen, learn, and ultimately lead with our actions. Not just because it's the right thing, but because it's the smart thing to do.
