They Want to Take Over the World

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, March 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- It has offices in 4 countries, 4 million users worldwide, and sales in more than 180 countries. The numbers don't lie: Hotmart is going beyond national boundaries to conquer the world.

Founded in 2011 by entrepreneurs Joćo Pedro Resende and Mateus Bicalho, CEO and CTO, respectively, Hotmart started out with very little, but did not let a shortage of funds become a barrier to growth, turning into the largest platform for digital products in Latin America. The business model is based on the supply and distribution of digital products, such as: online courses, ebooks, audiobooks and podcasts, among other things. Income is generated by a fee charged for each sale.

Nowadays, in addition to Brazil, Hotmart has offices in Spain and Holland, and has just inaugurated its new branch in Colombia. This provided the occasion for 'Hotmart Start,' a gathering of more than 300 people who were given a hands-on opportunity to learn how to transform their knowledge into digital products, discover market potential and swap stories.

"Since Hotmart began, we've been thinking, if it succeeds, we're going to have to share it with the whole world.  We've created a multi-currency platform, developed our products in several languages, and our staff is multilingual. We're aiming to reproduce the accelerated growth we've had in Brazil in other countries as well," says Joćo Pedro Resende.

The next step in this internationalization strategy will take place in upcoming months. The company will launch its operations in Mexico, strengthening its growth plan for Latin America. Resende does not rule out entry into the U.S. and other regions. But he underscores that in the medium-term, the idea is to consolidate operations in Latin America. "We believe that Latin America will become one of the fastest growing markets. The main challenge is to export the company culture, adjusting it to the culture of other countries," he says.

Hotmart ended the month of January with growth of 88% over the same period in 2017. "This result demonstrates the company's solidity and the success of its growth plan, as well as the recovery of the Brazilian economy," Resende concludes.
