Liberals deny Imperial Tobacco the right to speak during public consultations on Bill S-5

MONTRÉAL, Feb. 23, 2018 /CNW/ - Media representatives are invited to a press conference where Imperial Tobacco Canada, the largest tobacco manufacturer in Canada, will address the press and present the content of the message it hoped to deliver to members of the House Standing Committee of Health during their study of Bill S-5 - An Act to amend the Tobacco Act and the Non-Smokers' Health Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

This became necessary following the Liberal government's refusal to allow Imperial Tobacco to publicly express its opinion and answer questions from Members of Parliament during Health Canada's Standing Committee public hearings on Bill S-5, which will end on Monday, February 26, on Parliament Hill.

Mr. Eric Gagnon, Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Imperial Tobacco Canada, will also highlight the inconsistencies in the government's approach with the tobacco industry versus the marijuana industry.

Mr. Gagnon will then be available to media and answer questions.
