Nominated by then-President-elect Trump in December of 2016 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in February 2017, McMahon advocates on behalf of the nearly 30 million small businesses in America, fulfilling the mission of the SBA to "aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests" of small businesses by offering loans, loan guarantees, government contracts, financial counseling and other forms of assistance.

McMahon is an entrepreneur and business executive in her own right, serving as the co-founder and former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).  She left the WWE and entered the political ring, running in 2010 as a Republican for the United States Senate from Connecticut. McMahon lost that bid to Democratic Party nominee Richard Blumenthal. She ran again for Connecticut's other Senate seat in 2012, but was defeated by Democratic Representative Chris Murphy.

Lunch will be served in the club's Holeman Lounge at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $25 for National Press Club members (members may purchase two tickets at this rate) and $39 for all other non-member tickets.
