Six Montérégie businesses can complete their growth projects


Government of Canada awards more than $1,600,000 in financial assistance to a number of businesses in the region

Businesses need to be able to rely on adequate resources to create innovative products that meet market demand. In 2017, the Government of Canada adopted an ambitious plan to support entrepreneurial drive through concrete growth-generating initiatives that benefit businesses and communities.

Thanks to financial support from CED totalling $1,666,250, six Montérégie businesses will be able to carry out projects that will generate more than $7.2M in investments in the region. The projects consist in installing state-of-the-art equipment to increase production and to implement expansion and commercialization strategies. The contributions are also expected to create 29 steady jobs in the region.

The repayable contributions were announced today by the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.

The recipient businesses are Industries P.W.I., MDL Nutrition, Accuratech Machining, Dominique Martin & Associés, Concept Danat (website in French only) and Industries MR.

The funding awarded by the Government of Canada through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program will help these companies achieve their growth objectives.

Industries P.W.I.

Repayable contribution of $400,000 out of a total investment of $3,565,000

The project consists in increasing the company's production capacity to maximize its market opportunities. It involves building a new warehouse and a new production facility and acquiring specialized tools. CED's financial support will go toward the purchase and installation of production equipment, including laboratory equipment, automated packaging tools and two separate production lines.

 

Founded in 1950, Industries P.W.I. (PWI) is a manufacturer that processes wood fibres to make high-quality biomass products, including sawdust and woodflour of various grades. Its products are sold in the industrial, commercial, institutional and residential sectors across Canada and the United States and abroad. The biomass products include green firelogs, wood pellets and Logik-ê fire starters. Located in Saint-Hyacinthe, the business employs 45 people.

MDL Nutrition

Repayable contribution of $345,000 out of a total investment of $775,000

The project consists in acquiring and installing a variety of production equipment (shredder, emulsifying machine, chopper, mixer, etc.), storage equipment (thermal containers, freezing trays, processing table, etc.) and handling equipment (palletizer, high-power pressure washing system, air compressors, etc.) used for processing meat into emulsified by-products for the cat and dog food market. CED's financial support will go toward the acquisition and installation costs for the new equipment. The project is expected to create five jobs.

 

Established in 2016, MDL Nutrition Inc. (MDL) is a start-up company in Acton Vale. It plans to develop the commercialization of emulsified meats used in the manufacture of cat and dog food. The emulsified meats (beef, pork, chicken, fish, lamb, etc.) are incorporated into basic pet food, both in dry and canned formats.

Accuratech Machining

Repayable contribution of $300,000 out of a total investment of $1,400,000

The project consists in growing the business and optimizing its markets by upgrading the technological level of its production equipment, installing a vertical CNC machining centre and a high throughput 11?axis CNC lathe. CED's financial assistance will go toward the acquisition and installation costs for the new equipment. The project is expected to create two jobs.

 

Established in 2000, Accuratech Machining is a manufacturer that specializes in series machining of multi-purpose metal parts used in a variety of sectors, including industrial machinery, transportation, recreation, food and specialized bolting materials. It occupies a special niche in the high-precision machining of small parts no bigger than six inches. Located in Saint-Hyacinthe, the company has 14 employees.

Dominique Martin & Associés

Repayable contribution of $280,000 out of a total investment of $700,000

The project consists in increasing production capacity by acquiring and installing a filler, crimper, conveyor belts, etc. It also involves implementing a commercialization strategy to enter new markets. CED's financial assistance will go toward the acquisition and installation of production equipment, professional commercialization costs, laboratory tests and the salary of a quality-assurance resource. The project will create 10 jobs.

 

Dominique Martin & Associés Inc. was established in 2007. The company repositioned itself in the production and marketing of high-end canned food for cats and dogs. Located in Acton Vale, the business offers top-quality products using a variety of fish, lamb and many other meat-based recipes. The business has over 20 employees.

Concept Danat (website in French only)

Repayable contribution of $210,000 out of a total investment of $500,000

The project consists in increasing the company's production capacity so that it can meet demand for its products. It involves acquiring a DTG (direct to garment) printer, a two-stage oven to set the prints, peripheral equipment to operate the printer and oven, and fit-up and leasehold improvement costs. CED's financial support will go toward the acquisition and installation costs for the new equipment. The project will create 10 jobs.

 

Established in 1994, Concept Danat (Danat) is located in Saint-Hyacinthe and specializes in the production and marketing of printed and embroidered garments and articles using various procedures, including sublimation, silk screening and laser decoration. Its clientele consists mainly of provincial and national distributors in Quebec, Ontario and the United States. The company currently has 23 employees.

Industries MR

Repayable contribution of $131,250 out of a total investment of $262,500

Operating at full capacity, the company will be able to increase its production capacity to meet the growing demand for its services. The project consists in acquiring and installing a variety of equipment, including a boring machine, a bridge crane and related equipment. CED's financial support will go toward the acquisition, transportation and installation of the new production line. The project is expected to create two jobs.

 

Established in 1992, Industries MR (MR) is located in Acton Vale and specializes in conventional and digital machining of medium and large metal parts, mainly steel. Its clientele is mostly made up of medium-size and large enterprises in the manufacturing and mining sectors. MR provides just-in-time machining services, in keeping with the technical specificities of each client, including those for which it is a subcontractor. The business has 16 employees.
