Custom Display Company, Gilbert, Discusses the Issue of Net Neutrality and How it Will Affect the Trade Show Industry

MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Custom exhibit company, Gilbert, shares their thoughts on how changes in net neutrality rules could affect the trade show industry.

Net neutrality rules were developed to ensure a free and open internet for all users. Without net neutrality, connections to certain websites could be slowed down or sped up and subscribers may be forced to pay a fee to access certain content.

Changes to net neutrality have many businesses scared, especially those that derive a large portion of their income from the internet. But, what do changes in net neutrality mean for those in the trade show industry?

In some ways, trade shows may get a boost. If internet users are unable to access the content they want online, they will likely turn to offline ways of obtaining information such as trade shows. Essentially, trade shows may become a more significant opportunity to connect individuals to products and services.

However, there's still the question of how trade shows will market themselves if internet regulations change. Those that relied heavily on internet marketing may be forced to seek alternative marketing strategies.

E-newsletters, which are already effective, may find themselves at the head of the marketing pack because they will circumvent potential issues with internet throttling and deliver trade show information directly to prospects. Trade show professionals could also see a resurgence in direct mail marketing, especially if email providers are affected by net neutrality changes.

Companies that moved away from direct mail marketing may need to reinvest in expert-level copywriters to create paper versions of sales letters. This would require marketing professionals to consider the structure of their departments in terms of whether they choose to devote resources toward creating such materials in-house or not. The growth of the gig economy may relieve some burden as marketing directors will have a growing pool of expert freelance copywriters to partner with in the future.
