/R E P E A T -- Media Invitation - A World First: A UNESCO Chair on the Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism/

SHERBROOKE, QC, Feb. 20, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Are youth aware of the dangers of hate speech? Has awareness of its persuasive powers been communicated in schools? Do parents of radicalized youth have access to tools and services to respond? How can we develop and evaluate the effectiveness of prevention programs? Are stakeholders familiar with best practices for taking concrete action to prevent and combat these challenges?

A World First: A UNESCO Chair on the Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism (CNW Group/Université de Sherbrooke)

All these issues will be examined by the new UNESCO Chair on the Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism, whose activities will be officially unveiled on February 23 by the Université de Sherbrooke, Concordia University and the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). The only one of its kind in the world, the Chair is directed by recognized experts and will bring together researchers and communities of practice.

Media are invited to attend the official inauguration, which will be held in the presence of the Canadian Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau; the Quebec Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, Christine St-Pierre; and the Minister of Families and Minister responsible for the Estrie region, Luc Fortin. The Secretary-General of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, Sébastien Goupil, and representatives of the partner universities will also attend the event.
