Canadian Teachers' Federation urges Nova Scotia Premier to meet with the NSTU

OTTAWA, Feb. 21, 2018 /CNW/ - The voice of 238,000 teachers across the country echoes the invitation issued today by the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) to the Nova Scotia Premier and Education Minister, to meet and discuss the recommendations of the Glaze report.

"With a strong strike mandate of 82.5 per cent given to the NSTU, all eyes are on the Premier and Minister to see if they will do the right thing," says H. Mark Ramsankar, President of the Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF). "We urge them to halt the implementation of the Glaze report and consult with the teachers whose voices were shut out throughout this process. Teachers' voices must be heard.

"After all, as NSTU President Liette Doucet has stated, teachers' working conditions are also student learning conditions. The CTF agrees with the NSTU that the recommendations contained in the Glaze report will cause real damage to education and really hurt Nova Scotian students," he adds.

"Canadian teachers from coast to coast to coast stand in solidarity with members of the NSTU and we share their concerns about the future of education in Nova Scotia. The recommendations will cause division and chaos while distracting from the real issues that matter in public education ? supporting the educational needs of students in the classroom."
