Nyansa and Eight Universities Team Up to Deliver Customized User Performance Management Solutions for U.S. Research and Education Community

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Nyansa, Inc. ("knee-ans-sah"), a fast-growing innovator of a new generation of network analytics software technology, announced today an engagement with the Internet2 community to improve efficiencies, lower operational costs and improve the user experience across the IT network. Institutions participating in the effort include the Universities of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Notre Dame, Michigan, North Carolina at Greensboro, and Tennessee, and Stanford University, Brandeis University and Wesleyan University.

Technical staff and leadership from these leading institutions worked with Nyansa and Internet2 to tailor Nyansa's Voyance user performance management platform for higher education's complex requirements. Voyance completed a rigorous service validation process by all eight universities to ensure that the customized offering addressed campus security, identity management, and integration challenges.

"Nyansa and Internet2 member institutions worked closely to design and tailor a network analytics solution that best fits the diverse needs of universities and colleges, and their unique network architectures," said Ryan Turner, manager of networking at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "The Voyance service incorporates holistic views of network traffic based on end-user utilization and provides opportunities for community driven comparisons for additional insights."

Internet2 is a non-profit, member-driven advanced technology community that provides a national technology infrastructure and collaboration environment for many of the nation's researchers. It includes the largest and fastest research and education network, as well as trust, identity, and cloud service programs.

"Internet2 is delighted to add the Nyansa service to our cloud portfolio. This represents another success of a service provider working closely with our higher education member community to shape their services to the vital needs of higher education," said David Gift, associate vice president for community engagement at Internet2. "We greatly appreciate the effort both Nyansa and our members have made to reach this point."

Voyance is now available as a tailored subscription service to all universities that connect to the Internet2 advanced research and education network.

Combining advanced analytics technologies, cloud-based computing, and sophisticated machine learning techniques, Voyance represents the newest approach to optimizing end user performance on wired and wireless access networks. Unlike conventional technology or proprietary vendor solutions, Nyansa's cloud-based Voyance network analytics platform constantly measures, analyzes, and correlates every user network transaction, working seamlessly across Cisco or Aruba networks without any client software, hardware sensors, server agents or any intrusive additional network infrastructure.

"Voyance provides Wesleyan with insight on wireless performance from the user perspective that we have not had in the past. It provides multiple data points that allow us to address systemic issues, some of which fly under the radar yet greatly impact user satisfaction," said Karen Warren, deputy chief information officer at Wesleyan University. "Tools like Voyance are often out of budgetary reach for campuses, particularly to those our size, yet expectations of wireless performance are very high on college campuses. The Internet2 partnership is critical in making this available to the higher education community. The Internet2 validation process mandates consideration of different types of institutions whose members advocate for aggressive pricing structures and terms, making the purchase process much simpler."

Since its introduction in April 2016, Nyansa's Voyance solution has quickly become the largest cloud-based network analytics service in use within the higher education community. Voyance is now analyzing traffic from more than one million wired and wireless users each week, supporting over 90,000 wireless access points across more than 40 universities worldwide.

"The research and education community cloud service validation process has become a valued and trusted engagement model for many of the world's leading educational institutions," said Abe Ankumah, chief executive officer at Nyansa. "These institutions' technical expertise and intimate knowledge of large-scale networks makes this an ideal collaboration to help solve the growing problem of how to best manage the user experience in the face of constantly changing networks and dwindling resources."
