Clean200 List From As You Sow And Corporate Knights Outperforms Dirty Energy Corporations By Nearly Double

OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, As You Sow and Corporate Knights released the fourth update of the Carbon Clean 200tm (Clean200tm), a list of the 200 largest publicly traded companies in the world making significant revenue from clean energy. In its first full year and a half of live performance, Clean200 companies generated a total return of 32.1%. That's almost double the 15.7% for its fossil fuel benchmark the S&P 1200 Global Energy Index.

The companies that contributed the most to the Clean200's outperformance are involved in the provision of products, materials, and services related to energy efficiency.

The top 10 companies making the list are Siemens Ag, Toyota Motor Corp, Schneider Electric Se, Abb Ltd, Panasonic Corp, Vestas Wind Systems, Bombardier Inc, Innogy Se, Sse Plc, Emerson Electric Co.

The top 10 countries with companies on the list include Greater China (68), United States (35) Japan (21), Germany (9), South Korea (7), India (7), Sweden (5), Canada (5) with Denmark, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain tied with four companies each.

"Market forces continue to show that the new energy economy is not only a growth sector, but continues to outperform fossil fuel based energy. We are living through the 'Great Transition' as capital flows drive the path to averting climate catastrophe." said Andrew Behar, CEO of As You Sow and report co-author.

"It is interesting that the Clean200 managed to almost double the performance of fossil fuel energy stocks over the past year and half, given the general upswing in oil prices over that period," said Toby Heaps, CEO of Corporate Knights and report co-author. "the outperformance is being driven by companies in the business of energy efficiency."
