Appointments to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada

SSHRC is the federal research funding agency that promotes and supports post-secondary?based research and research training in the humanities and social sciences. The agency plays an important role in Canada's research and scientific landscape and is committed to fostering greater equity, diversity and inclusion in the sciences. SSHRC invests over $350 million annually, supporting more than 8,000 graduate students and nearly 14,000 researchers.

SSHRC's governing council promotes and assists research and scholarship in the social sciences and humanities. It meets regularly to set policy and program priorities and allocate budgets.
In 2016, the Government of Canada adopted a new approach to Governor in Council appointments. This approach strives for gender parity and is supported by an open, transparent and merit-based selection process: one that will result in the recommendation of exceptionally competent candidates who truly reflect Canada's diversity.
The terms of these appointments are staggered between two and three years' duration.
