Some Kids Hate Mateo: Snow Days Can Be Hungry Days For Some Students

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Feb. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of the Midwest this weekend. Winter Storm Mateo is on the way, and his presence isn't welcome by some students.

Snow days are something most students love, however for food-insecure children, an impromptu day off can mean they're cut off from their most consistent access to food. That leaves these kids and the school officials who help feed them cheering against snow days each winter, something most people would never consider.

This winter, Kellogg Company and No Kid Hungry are shining a light on this rarely seen side of the fight against hunger. Together, these partners filmed this video featuring teachers, administrators and school staff from a Midwestern high school, who share letters from students detailing the emotional toll missing school takes on food-insecure students.

"Snow days, when kids don't have access to school meals, are especially hard on the 1 in 6 kids in the United States who face hunger," said Jill Davis, Senior Vice President at No Kid Hungry. "We can end child hunger by making sure kids in need get a healthy breakfast at school, which is exactly what our partnership with Kellogg entails, improving and expanding school breakfast programs in cities across America."

As part of their Breakfasts for Better Daystm global signature cause, Kellogg Company has partnered with No Kid Hungry to help make sure more kids have access to wholesome meals in schools. Share this video on your favorite channels to help spread the word about this critical issue throughout this winter.
