American Humane Names Senior Executive to Drive Support and Expansion of Programs Serving the Nation's Most Vulnerable

WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Humane, the country's first national humane organization, which for more than 140 years has been first to serve in the protection of animals, has named Deena Edwards to the position of Chief Marketing Officer. Edwards is the latest in a growing roster of top-tier executives who have been recruited as part of an ambitious agenda championed by American Humane President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert to help ever greater numbers of the most vulnerable among us.

Deena Edwards has been named Chief Marketing Officer of American Humane, the country's first national humane organization.

Edwards will draw on more than 20 years of experience in marketing, advertising sales, cause marketing, strategic corporate partnerships, and brand development to help drive support for and expand vitally important programs touching the lives of some one billion animals each year. In her new position, she will help drive mission-focused growth at American Humane, which since 1877 has worked to create many of the nation's landmark protections for animals.

"American Humane is an iconic charity that has led the humane field for more than century and has made the world a better place for animals," said Ms. Edwards. "I hope to combine my personal love of animals with my professional skills and experience to help secure an even greater degree of support for American Humane's historic mission."

Ms. Edwards has a long history of success in setting and advancing the strategic goals of the institutions for which she worked. As the Senior Vice President of Global Branded Solutions and Partnerships at Discovery Communications, Ms. Edwards built and drove integrated, multi-regional advertising sales across the international division, including business strategy, brand messaging, and content development and production in order to maximize multi-regional revenue. She also managed the company's corporate partnerships with the National Park Service and National Park Foundation and developed marketing strategies for the launch of Animal Planet, one of Discovery's most popular properties.

Ms. Edwards has an undergraduate degree in French Language and Literature from Frostburg State University and hours towards a Master of Education degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.

"Deena's passion and experience will help expand our circle of friends and further accelerate our growth so that we can help even more animals in need," said American Humane President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert. "We are very grateful to have her join our team."

Jack Hubbard, who was previously in the CMO role, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer. He will work closely with staff to maximize the impact and social capital of American Humane's life-changing, life-saving programs.
