The AFNQL Pays Tribute to Cree Elder Abel Kitchen who Passed Away Last Week

WENDAKE, QC, Feb. 6, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) conveys its deep condolences to the family and friends of Elder Abel Kitchen, a member of the Cree Nation of Waswanipi.

"The Grand Cree Nation has lost an exceptional, honest and respected leader, who, not only has he been one of the important players of the 1975 James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, but also the Chief of the Waswanipi community for many years, said the Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard. He also contributed to the growth of the Cree Nation with the establishment of a Cree Government, the status of which he worked hard all his life to defend. To the very end, he shared his teachings, his traditional way of life and his love for his territory. His passing leaves a great void, but his memory lives on as an inspiration to us all."
