PsychArmor Institute, Elizabeth Dole Foundation, USAA Launch Military Caregiver Recognition Award Program

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 05, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The PsychArmor Institute, Elizabeth Dole Foundation, and USAA today announced the Military Caregiver Recognition Award Program. The new program provides support and free online education to Veteran and military caregivers to help them meet the unique challenges associated with caregiving responsibilities.

"Too many of our nation's hidden heroes ? the 5.5 million spouses, parents, family members, and friends who provide voluntary care for wounded, ill, or injured Veterans ? don't receive the support they need and deserve," said Marjorie Morrison, founder and CEO of PsychArmor Institute. "By combining our extensive library of free online training courses for caregivers with the resources of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation's Hidden Heroes campaign, we're delivering attention, support, and resources in real time, wherever and whenever the caregiver needs it."

Military and Veteran caregivers who register at http://www.hiddenheroes.org and complete five PsychArmor courses for caregivers will earn a Certificate of Achievement, signed by Senator Elizabeth Dole and Marjorie Morrison, in recognition of their dedication in caring for a wounded service member or veteran.

"More often than not, military caregivers are thrust into the role of caregiver without any education or training for this challenging role," said Senator Elizabeth Dole, founder of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. "Taking on this new challenge can leave caregivers feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and alone. We are pleased to be working with PsychArmor Institute to ensure caregivers feel more adequately prepared to take on the critically important role of caring for our nation's wounded warriors. Responding to the needs of military caregivers with resources and support is our way of honoring their personal service and sacrifice, and helps ensure that caregivers ? and, by extension, their Veterans ? are able to improve and thrive."

PsychArmor's School for Military Veteran Caregivers and Families is made possible thanks to the financial support and collaboration of USAA. PsychArmor currently offers two dozen free online courses specifically designed for Veteran and military caregivers, and will launch additional courses in 2018. Each course is developed and led by experts and clinicians with deep understanding of the unique needs of military caregivers and families and the obstacles they face. The courses use animation, gamification, and simulations to ensure an immersive and engaging learning experience.

"USAA is honored to support the work of both PsychArmor and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to engage and empower the millions of Veteran and military caregivers across the nation," said Harriet Dominique, Senior Vice President, Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs at USAA. "The new Military Caregiver Recognition Award Program aims to provide caregivers with the tools and resources to thrive, all the while recognizing the incredible work they do every day on behalf of their loved ones."
