Ontario Hospitals Continue to Play a Leadership Role in Improving Safety

TORONTO, Feb. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) welcomes the second phase of the Government of Ontario's Workplace Violence Prevention in Health Care Leadership Table (Table), and calls for ongoing collaboration and partnership in order to address violence in the workplace.

"This is an important issue that requires commitment from leaders across Ontario's health care system," said OHA President and CEO Anthony Dale. "The Table is an effective channel for key representatives across the sector to come together to discuss new approaches to create safer spaces for our employees and our patients."

Violence in the workplace is a complex issue that requires a collaborative, multi-faceted response. Following phase one, the Leadership Table endorsed 23 recommendations for Ontario hospitals to implement effective workplace violence prevention programs. Hospitals are currently working through these recommendations by creating solutions that reflect their individual missions, the services they provide and that best suit the needs of their staff and communities.

"Health care employees are on the frontlines in Ontario hospitals every day, delivering high quality care to patients," said Dale. "They are at the forefront of our transforming health care system, and play a vital role in the delivery of patient care. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the government and other stakeholders and organizations to ensure our hospitals are safe for our staff and patients."

The OHA and hospital sector representatives will continue to play leadership roles in the Workplace Violence Prevention in Healthcare Leadership Table as the second phase commences.
