Made for Canadians, by Canadians: Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada is Canada's #1 Automaker

TORONTO, Feb. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) took time today to share some of the credit for its record sales results in 2017 with its primary supplier - Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC).

Toyota Canada Inc. (CNW Group/Toyota Canada Inc.)

Once again, TMMC is the number one automaker in Canada with 571,535 units built at its three facilities in Cambridge and Woodstock, Ontario in 2017. TMMC was also a net exporter of vehicles last year.

"We are very proud Toyota was, once again, the number one maker of vehicles in Canada last year," said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO, Toyota Canada Inc. "More than 40 per cent of the vehicles we sold in Canada were built right here by Canadians."

Leading the Canadian industry in number of vehicles built, TMMC builds the iconic Toyota Corolla, the versatile Toyota RAV4, and the luxurious Lexus RX 350 and Lexus RX 450 hybrid.

Toyota has been building vehicles in Canada since 1988 and over seven million Toyota vehicles have now been made in Canada. Every year, the skills and passion of more than 8,000 Canadians build Toyota vehicles at three assembly plants in Cambridge and Woodstock, supported by thousands of people across the country who supply parts and services.

"We have a very strong partnership with TMMC and its Team Members, and each Toyota vehicle manufactured delivers the quality, dependability and reliability that our Canadian customers have come to expect," Hutchinson added. "The support of our Canadian customers ? and their communities across the country ? has allowed us to grow our business in Canada for over 50 years."
