Banfield Pet Hospital® Unveils New Anesthesia Program

VANCOUVER, Wash., Jan. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Banfield Pet Hospital today introduced the newest edition of its anesthetic and pain management guidelines and protocols: Anesthesia and Analgesia for the Veterinary Practitioner: Canine and Feline.

For the past 15 years, Banfield has made its Anesthesia for the Pet Practitioner publication available online to all veterinary professionals, long proving an important resource for new and experienced veterinary professionals alike. The culmination of years of collaboration between Banfield veterinarians, anesthesiologists, research analysts, and industry experts alike, the new program aims to equip every member of the hospital team with tools to aid in delivering safe and effective anesthesia, and ultimately, improve patient outcomes.

With more than 1,000 hospitals across the U.S. serving over three million pets each year, Banfield has a vast amount of data at its fingertips that it leverages to not only improve medicine within its own hospitals but also throughout the profession.

"At Banfield Pet Hospital, we are passionate about and feel a responsibility to share our insights and resources with the broader veterinary profession to help promote quality-care practices and build sustainable outcomes for pets," said Karen Faunt, DVM, MS, DACVIM, Vice President of Veterinary Quality and Operations, Banfield Pet Hospital. "Providing high-quality medicine is at the heart of what we aim to do for every pet that walks through our doors, and Banfield's new anesthesia program was thoughtfully designed to support not only our hospitals but also thousands of other veterinary teams in delivering on that goal."

With its new anesthetic guidelines, Banfield also introduces a Medical Quality Standards program with evidence-based Clinical Essentials focused on key behaviors and actions to support a more comprehensive anesthesia program. Additional resources available also include job aids for each phase of anesthesia, an individualized anesthesia dosage calculator, and a monitoring form to capture patient-specific needs.
