Two individuals charged for possession of unstamped tobacco


SOUTH GLENGARRY, ON, Jan. 31, 2018 /CNW/ - On January 25, 2018, while on patrol in South Glengarry area, investigators of the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) observed suspicious activity occurring along the St. Lawrence River shoreline. Investigators subsequently stopped a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the scene. Inside the pickup truck, officers located and seized 50 bags of unstamped fine cut tobacco weighing a total of 663 kg.

The van's occupants, Alexis McDougall, aged 35, of Ottawa, Ontario and Robert Petry, aged 42, of Cornwall, Ontario were arrested and charged for Possession of Unstamped Tobacco, pursuant to the Excise Act, 2001. Petry was subsequently released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Cornwall Provincial Court on February 27, 2018. McDougall was also charged with failure to comply with an undertaking, contrary to the Criminal Code and remains in custody pending an upcoming bail hearing scheduled for February 2, 2018.
