Carolina Children's Home announces the availability of Scholarships and Grants

COLUMBIA, S.C., Jan. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Carolina Children's Home of Columbia, South Carolina announces the availability of scholarships and grants for individuals and organizations who live in or serve children and young adults and families in Richland, Lexington, Sumter, Calhoun, Kershaw, Newberry and Fairfield counties.  Applications can be found at www.carolinachildrenshome.com.

Scholarships will fund both undergraduate and graduate students studying in an accredited, South Carolina college, technical school or university.  Areas of study that will be supported are nursing, social work, psychology, counseling and medicine.  Scholarship awards are for up to $10,000 and will fund tuition and academic fees.  Scholarships will be for the academic year beginning in fall, 2018.

Small and large grants are available for new and innovative services, expansion of services, community education, one-time capital investments and other initiatives consistent with the mission of the Children's Home.

Carolina Children's Home (CCH) was founded in 1909 as an orphanage in a rented home on Assembly Street in downtown Columbia.  CCH eventually moved to its better-known campus off Trenholm Road, where over the past 100+ years it provided a caring home, education, counseling and clinical mental health services to children, young adults and their families.  In the fall of 2015, CCH closed its patient programs and subsequently sold its property.

"Today, rather than through the traditional programs and bricks and mortar services, the Carolina Children's Home board is pleased to continue the mission of CCH 'to meet the underserved mental and physical needs of children, young adults and their families' through providing scholarships and grants and advocacy to children's initiatives in South Carolina's Midlands" stated Stephen Creech, Chair, Board of Directors.
