Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure to Feature Network Model Management Solutions at DistribuTECH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure will feature its network model management solutions at the DistribuTECH Conference and Exhibition, the largest annual event for the electric transmission and distribution sector. Hexagon's software helps electric utilities improve the quality and availability of data for planning and operations.

The solutions include Intergraph G/Technology®, which enables operators to maintain a definitive source of reliable, location-based information describing the network and its connectivity, and Intergraph NetWorks®, which provides secure, real-time access to the network model across different business functions. Hexagon's software takes in data from disparate sources, including GIS, databases, spreadsheets, catalogs and more; imports, validates and synthesizes the data for modelling; and then transforms and exports it with CIM capabilities for use in operational systems.

Clean network data is critical for grid planning and customer-friendly operations. However, utilities struggle with inaccurate, incomplete or duplicate data and siloed data analysis. Hexagon's network model management solutions provide a consistent way to maintain an accurate record of asset location and information, which can be more easily consumed by multiple applications, including ADMS, OMS and SCADA. With a single version of truth for the network model, utilities can improve planning and operations and field productivity and safety.

"Network model management is a major topic for electric utilities," said Dean Galvez, chief information officer for Snohomish County Public Utility District (SnoPUD), which provides power to more than 330,000 customers north of Seattle. "Our partnership with Hexagon has helped us meet this challenge. Hexagon's network model management solutions provide the definitive source of valid network data to feed our GE-Alstom ADMS. The technology has been in production for more than three years and is a mission-critical component of our operational enterprise systems."

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is currently undertaking collaborative research in distribution-side network model management with its Distribution GIS and Grid Model Data Management project. Hexagon is assisting EPRI in the definition of standards that will allow for better integration. Hexagon will demonstrate its software at booth 3019 from January 23-25 at DistribuTECH in San Antonio, Texas.
