Update on Edmonton Institution

Additional Disciplinary Measures
Last week, CSC announced that four employees were terminated following disciplinary hearings at Edmonton Institution as part of the disciplinary investigation into allegations of harassment, intimidation and bullying. Further disciplinary hearings were held this week and as a result, two additional employees have been terminated.
The disciplinary investigation at Edmonton Institution has found that a number of allegations were founded, and to date, a total of six employees have been terminated for inappropriate conduct. Further disciplinary hearings are pending and additional investigations are ongoing.
The Edmonton Police Service is currently conducting a separate, independent investigation, in conjunction with the RCMP, related to the allegations of possible criminal activity at Edmonton Institution and CSC is cooperating fully with them.
CSC is committed to taking the necessary measures and actions to offer a positive and respectful workplace for its 18,000 employees across the country.
Change in leadership and recognition of contributions
On January 8, Commissioner Don Head announced the appointment of a new Regional Deputy Commissioner in the Prairie Region, France Gratton, and a new Warden at Edmonton Institution, Gary Sears.
Commissioner Head would like to take this opportunity to thank former Prairie Regional Deputy Commissioner Peter Linkletter for his contributions to restore the workplace at Edmonton Institution while he served as Regional Deputy Commissioner. Peter took direct action in 2016 by commissioning the TLS Enterprises workplace assessment and action plan, developed in collaboration with staff, unions, management and the Citizens' Advisory Committee. This will serve as a basis for the "way forward" at Edmonton Institution and the work of everyone in this area will benefit all staff.
Commissioner Head would also like to thank Clovis Lapointe, Executive Director of Pê Sâkâstêw Centre, who acted as the Warden at Edmonton Institution over the last year. His engagement and leadership at the institution helped to establish the foundation upon which CSC is building a positive work environment for staff and offenders.
