The American College of Financial Services Reaches $2M Scholarship Milestone
BRYN MAWR, Pa., Jan. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs reached a major milestone, surpassing the $2 million mark in total scholarships awarded to military veterans, active duty, and their spouses.
According to the Center's executive director, Ted Digges, Captain, SC, USN (Ret.), "Celebrating such a major milestone not only provides the opportunity to look back on the progress we have made, but also helps us to anticipate even more milestones going forward. Making a positive impact upon the lives of those who have served our country and assisting with a viable second career is what the Center is all about." The Center's goal is to empower deserving veterans with career opportunities, and to infuse the financial services profession with a talent pool of determined, mission-minded individuals who are vital to the integrity of the profession.
Sima Tamaddon, the 100th scholarship recipient of calendar year 2017, is an example of the caliber of the Center's scholars. Now the spouse of an active duty Marine sergeant, she began her career in June 2001 as an investment banker near the World Trade Center. After the tragic events of 9/11, her perspective shifted and she found she was less interested in career advancement but rather in developing a life of personal meaning, which includes helping individuals with their financial challenges. Her solid background in finance and marketing, combined with a passionate desire to help military families achieve financial security, made her an excellent scholarship choice.
The Veterans Center has experienced explosive growth since its launch in 2012, thanks to an impressive support from corporate and private donors alike as well as word of mouth advocacy from the scholars. The annual summer fundraiser known as The Clambake continues to generate professional interest and garner financial support for the important mission of the Center.
