Otter Products Closes Doors for a Day of Giving

FORT COLLINS, Colo., Jan. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Otter Products is closing its doors to open hearts, globally. In partnership with the OtterCares Foundation, Otter Products is pausing all operations around the world for one day to send employees out into their communities to volunteer with organizations that inspire kids to change the world. Otter Products will be closed2open on Feb. 15 and invites others to join in making a lasting change.

"Closed2open is a statement about our culture," said Otter Products Founder and Chief Visionary Officer Curt Richardson. "We want to give students the tools, give them the spark, to ignite entrepreneurship in their hearts."

Otter Products, maker of OtterBox and LifeProof products, is dedicated to the corporate mission "We Grow to Give." This mission is why the company is closing for a second year in a row to support the OtterCares Foundation. Last year's inaugural closed2open event produced 4,650 volunteer hours and impacted over 100 nonprofits and schools.

This year, the goal is to double the hours volunteered by inviting others to pledge time to making a difference in their communities. Anyone can pledge volunteer hours by visiting otterbox.com/closed2open or lifeproof.com/closed2open. By pledging hours you are entered to win a $1,000 prize to be granted by Otter Products to the qualifying nonprofit of your choice.1

Founded in 2010, OtterCares inspires kids to change the world by helping them become makers, givers and doers. The private foundation champions innovative education, grants and programs that teach philanthropy and entrepreneurship to kids ? the ultimate investment in the future.

"Closed2open is opening our hearts to make the difference in the lives of kids, to champion youth to become entrepreneurs and philanthropists," said OtterCares Founder Nancy Richardson. She likens teaching philanthropy and entrepreneurship to today's youth to the recycling movement for previous generations. If these are engrained early in a child's life, it becomes second nature in adulthood.

Otter Products believes volunteering is just as impactful, if not more, for its employees as it is for the community. The company encourages employees to volunteer year-round by offering 24 hours of volunteer time off each year and had an 85 percent participation rate in its volunteer program in 2017 - the national average for corporate-volunteer participation is only 31 percent.2 This year the company is expanding closed2open to include all global offices to increase volunteer impact and raise awareness for the importance of giving back globally. Offices in Europe and Asia will be closed2open on Feb. 22.

Otter Products invites other companies and individuals to join in on Feb. 15 and volunteer in their local community. Follow along on social media with #closed2open. Care to join in?
