The Fête des neiges de Montréal starts this Saturday at Parc Jean-Drapeau
MONTRÉAL, Jan, 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The entire animation team of this year's edition of the Fête des neiges de Montréal, presented by Tim Hortons, will be waiting for you every weekends, from January 20 to February 11, 2018, for a colourful winter event that is sure to provide hours of winter fun.
The 35th edition of the Fête features more than 20 outdoor activities, an array of exciting entertainers and a diversity of shows for the whole family, which will appeal to people of all ages who are eager to embrace the cold and come over to the park for lots of fun in the snow.
Montréal Mayor Valérie Plante stated: "We have the opportunity to be a northern-climate city, and in this regard we are truly favoured by the weather conditions. We have plenty of snow and the temperatures are expected to be mild, so there should be nothing to prevent us from playing outdoors in the magical setting provided by Parc Jean-Drapeau. This is a great time to celebrate and appreciate our northern climate. It's a time to go out with your family and indulge in the many activities the 35th edition of the Fête des neiges has to offer."
Coinciding with the official launch of the Fête des neiges, which took place on January 17, Danièle Henkel, remarked: "The Fête des neiges is now a tradition on the Montréal scene. How fortunate are we to have an abundance of snow on this 35th anniversary of the Fête, so that families are able to enjoy a well-rounded, diverse program with plenty of new attractions."
Activities for everyone
Whether you're a brave-heart, a food lover or more of a geek, you're sure to enjoy the new features of this 35th Fête des neiges. Bring out the lumberjack in you and try your luck at Axe Throwing. Make the bold leap and defy your dizziness by taking the Big Jump. Set off on Mont Boullé and discover the history of the Parc through the Two islands, one park, one city... trail. Or stop in front of the main stage to regale in the performances by popular artists.
The lineup of invited artists who will be heating up the stage at this year's Fête includes Alexe Gaudreault, Soran Dussaigne, Andie Duquette, along with tiny tots' favourites: Cibelle and Rapidou, Annie Brocoli, Anne-Lune and Maria Cannelloni.
The Fête des neiges also features street-food trucks, taffy on snow, mulled wine and restaurant areas with a variety of food fare so the entire family can re-energize and tackle the day. Meanwhile, the newly added Zone Faim de loup will allow you to have a bite to eat while enjoying intimate music performances from traditional artists.
Many of the must-do activities at the Fête des neiges are back again this year, including the Ice Ship, Dogsledding, Snow Scooters and Capture the Castle. Visitors can also enjoy a totally remodeled Plaine Tim Hortons where the Snow Slides have been replaced by Ice Slides, where the Zip-line will soar above the Skaters' Path and where a new terrace will enable the entire family to take a well-deserved break. Taken over by the Handy Beavers, the Atelier des petits doigts has also had a complete makeover and will provide a setting that's more charming than ever for budding builders.
Children's favourite characters are back
The Fête des neiges de Montréal is distinctive from other winter festivities because, among other things, it boasts an outstanding animation team. For the 2018 edition, there are more than 30 characters, including the popular Reindeer, the majestic Pirates and the Polar Circus artists, that will enliven the site, much to the delight of families in attendance. With their colourful costumes and natural flair, the various characters will transport youngsters of all ages into a dazzling new world.
Enjoy the ultimate experience and avoid the line-up for tickets
Most of the activities at the Fête des neiges are free, but for the more adventuresome who can never get enough, you can purchase the ACCROPASSE or a daily pass that gives you access to the Ice Slides, the Zip-line and the Big Jump.
For this year's edition of the event, a reservation system will be set up, enabling you to reserve a time slot for the most popular activities, so you can limit the wait time and fully enjoy the Fête des neiges. Reservations will be made on site once visitors arrive.
