Toronto women march on anniversary of global march
TORONTO, Jan. 17, 2018 /CNW/ - On the anniversary of the historic global Women's March, Toronto organizers are planning a march on Saturday, January 20 to unite communities against hate and rally to define a new future.
"We're asking people to join us this year to send a clear message that women must continue to organize and resist to define a new future that brings equity and justice for women." said Kavita Dogra, one of the organizers from the Toronto women's march committee. "This is an important moment of awakening, bringing light to the lived reality of oppression, discrimination and harassment that women face. Now is the time to keep marching."
Members of the organizing group have invited the public, people of all genders, to join in an anniversary march held one year after more than 60,000 people took to the streets in downtown Toronto and millions rallied around the globe in 2017. Organizers say everyone has their own reason to march but quite simplythey are marching "because we aren't done!"
What: Toronto Women's March - Defining Our Future
When: Saturday, January 20 from 12 to 2 p.m.
Where: Starting and ending at Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen Street, West. Between University, Queen and Bay streets in downtown Toronto.

Denise Hammond, another member of the Toronto Women's March Organizing Committee said, "Our resistance to every form of hate and gender based violence must be bold, it must be creative, and it must speak loudly to overpower the hurtful voices and actions of a few. This is why we are calling on women to keep pushing for a better future."
March organizers hope this march inspires othersto take action to push for social change and equity for the most marginalized and oppressed among us, citing concerns about sexism and discrimination - particularly the growing wave of targeted violence and rise in racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and anti-immigrant bashing.
