RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association Applauds Governor Cuomo For Inclusion Of Infertility Treatments In The 2018 Women's Agenda For New York

MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association applauds Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for including the proposal "Improve Access to IVF and Fertility Preservation Services" in the 2018 Women's Agenda for New York: Equal Rights, Equal Opportunity. RESOLVE advocates in New York were instrumental in communicating the importance of access to IVF and fertility preservation services to Members of Governor Cuomo's administration.

"I was ecstatic and moved to tears to hear that IVF coverage and fertility preservation are at the top of the Governor's health care agenda," said Risa A. Levine, RESOLVE Board Member and New York resident. "Secretary DeRosa is unique in her talent to pinpoint issues critical to protecting women's health, and Governor Andrew Cuomo is a leader in expanding health care and family building opportunities for New York families. We are so grateful for their commitment to leading on these issues. I am a proud New Yorker today!"

Governor Cuomo will direct the Superintendent of Financial Services to evaluate the best approach for incorporating coverage for in vitro fertilization into New York's existing infertility insurance law and update it to ensure individuals have access to fertility preservation services when appropriate.

"It's fantastic news that the Governor has recognized the need for IVF and fertility preservation insurance coverage," said Barbara Collura, President/CEO, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. "As the infertility community celebrates these policy advances in New York, RESOLVE will continue to advocate for passage of The Fair Access to Fertility Treatment Act (FAFTA), which would update New York insurance law to include coverage of IVF, fertility preservation for cancer patients, and adds non-discrimination language to ensure that all eligible individuals can receive coverage."

It is estimated that over 440,000 New Yorkers experience infertility. The full Report on the Status of New York Women and Girls: 2018 Outlook reflects the feedback, voices and opinions of women all over the state and is available here.
