Government of Canada supports community infrastructure for Oneida Nation of the Thames

OTTAWA, Jan. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - During a visit to Oneida Nation of the Thames today, the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, was pleased to confirm new investments in community infrastructure.

The Department of Indigenous Services Canada is investing $220,000 for renovations to 10 homes in the community. This complements a previous investment of $115,000 through Budget 2016 to support the First Nation in the creation of a housing authority, implementing a housing mentoring partnership with other First Nation housing authorities, and assisting with overall housing management.

The Department is also contributing approximately $38,000 to a feasibility study to potentially upgrade the community's Standing Stone School. This study will define the options that best meet the First Nation's educational needs.
