Statement by Minister Joly on Orthodox Christmas

Today, Orthodox Christians in Canada and around the world celebrate Christmas

OTTAWA, Jan. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics in Canada and around the world celebrate Christmas. This comes one day after the Armenian Orthodox community's celebration of the birth and Epiphany of Christ. During this time, many celebrants will gather with family and friends to attend mass, sing, exchange gifts and enjoy Christmas dinner together. It's a time of year marked by compassion and generosity toward those who are less fortunate.

Let us take advantage of this festive time to appreciate the diversity of our communities. Diversity is one of Canada's greatest strengths, and we all benefit from the many contributions made by the Orthodox Christian and Eastern Catholic communities in Canada.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I would like to wish everyone celebrating Orthodox Christmas a very happy, peaceful and healthy holiday.
