Statement by the Prime Minister on Orthodox Christmas

OTTAWA, Jan. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Orthodox Christmas:

"Today, we join Orthodox Christians in Canada and around the world to celebrate Christmas.

"Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and is a time to reflect on his message of hope and compassion. It is also an opportunity to appreciate the many blessings we enjoy in life and to show generosity to those in need, here at home and abroad.

"To mark this occasion, family and loved ones will gather to attend church services, exchange greetings and gifts, and share a special meal.

"These celebrations remind us that our diversity is our greatest strength. Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive Canada, and a better world.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, Sophie and I invite all Canadians to reflect on the important contributions that Canadians of Orthodox Christian faith make to our country. I wish all those celebrating a blessed and joyful Christmas, filled with hope, peace, and renewal."
