/R E P E A T -- Invitation - A historic walk to mark the 375th anniversary of Paul de Chomedey, Sieur de Maisonneuve's raising of the cross on Mount Royal/

MONTREAL, Jan. 3, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Archbishop of the Catholic Church of Montreal, Most Reverend Christian Lépine, invites you to an event commemorating the 375th anniversary of Paul de Chomedey, Sieur de Maisonneuve's memorable deed in raising a cross on Mount Royal. The cross was erected on Jan. 6, 1643 in gratitude for divine protection granted Ville-Marie which had faced the threat of flooding on Christmas Eve. To commemorate this pivotal moment in Montreal's history, the Catholic Church of Montreal invites you to join in a walk to the cross on Mount Royal.

On Saturday, January 6, at noon
Departure from the esplanade at the Mount Royal Chalet
1196 Camillien-Houde Road, Montreal, QC H3H 1A1

Archbishop Christian Lépine will lead the walk and then preside at a Liturgy of the Word once everyone has assembled before the cross.

On this day, the worldwide Catholic Church will also be celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany (a Greek term meaning "Appearance"). The appearance of the three wise men (Magi) was quite mysterious; the Magi's adoration of the Christ Child symbolizes the proclamation of the Good News to every nation throughout the world.

The walk is expected to last approximately 40 minutes round trip. There will be a procession from the chalet to the Cross at noon. If weather conditions at the time prove to be too difficult, a ceremony commemorating the planting of the cross will take place inside the chalet.
