Operation FINALLY HOME announces new project in South Central Texas to provide mortgage-free, custom-built home for wounded veteran and Texas A&M graduate

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Jan. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Operation FINALLY HOME is pleased to announce a new and upcoming project to provide a mortgage-free, custom-built home for a wounded "Aggie" veteran in South-Central Texas. Operation FINALLY HOME is honored to work with the Texas A&M graduate and family to plan and build this new home, which will also be built in Texas.

U.S. Army Lt. Garrett Spears and family, along with Operation FINALLY HOME Founder Dan Wallrath and Executive Director Rusty Carroll, say "Gig 'em" on New Year's Eve in New York City, after learning Spears and his family will receive a custom-built, mortgage-free home in 2018 from Operation FINALLY HOME. Spears, a 2011 Texas A&M graduate, was struck in the head by lightning in combat field training in 2013, losing the use of both legs as well as his short-term memory.

During the New Year's Eve celebration on FOX News with Jesse Watters and Kennedy, U.S. Army Lt. Garrett Spears and his family were "surprised" with the news that his family will receive a mortgage-free home.  (See video here: http://video.foxnews.com/v/5699496156001/?#sp=show-clips.)  As part of their process, Operation FINALLY HOME continues its fundraising efforts.

Rebel Engine Entertainment recording artist Stephanie Quayle is teaming with Operation FINALLY HOME in the SELFISH FOR RED, WHITE & BLUE campaign to help raise funds for this project. Quayle will donate 100% of the profits sales of her new single "Selfish" from iTunes throughout the campaign. Go to http://apple.co/2B0fJ9M

"I am humbled to be a part of this initiative to raise funds for a veteran who has sacrificed so much for our great country," said Stephanie Quayle. "Operation FINALLY HOME provides one of the greatest gifts to those in need of a little extra support."

About U.S. Army Lt. Garrett Spears:  U.S. Army Lt. Garrett Spears of San Antonio graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ronald Regan High School, receiving both an ROTC and academic scholarship to Texas A&M University. Knowing from an early age that he wanted to serve in the military, he signed his Army contract within the first week of college.

Spears graduated from Texas A&M University in 2011 with a degree in chemistry and began his Army career as the Chemical Corp (CBRN) officer for the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in 2013.

While participating in combat field training in October 2013, Spears was struck in the head by lightning, stopping his heart and resulting in multiple burns across his body. The traumatic brain injury caused Spears to lose use of both legs as well as his short-term memory. After nearly two years of in-patient rehabilitation, Spears was discharged in the fall of 2015, and his road to recovery continues as he is walking on a limited basis. He was awarded with the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Spears lives with his mother and stepfather, who provide his daily care and support, in San Antonio. His younger sister, Kelsey, attends Texas A&M in honor of her brother.
