A Financial Education Benefits Center New Year's Resolution: Saving Just a Little More Makes Sense in 2018

SAN RAMON, Calif., Dec. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As 2018 begins, Financial Education Benefits Center, a lifestyle financial and wellness membership benefits company, urges members to start saving more on everyday items and services with an upcoming discounts benefit. In a time when many Americans can't come up with $500 in an emergency, savings are more important than ever. Even Americans in more favorable financial situations may still be looking for the best deals whenever possible.

FEBC members' savings might serve a variety of goals: anything from a short-term goal like creating an emergency fund to a long-term goal like building a nest egg for retirement. As costs of living rise, everyday goods and services might be adding up. A benefit that FEBC will be rolling out in the near future will allow members to access discounts on many popular businesses they might already patronize or were planning to visit in the future.

"Finding the best deals or a new way to save can be time-consuming, but we want our members to save that effort with this upcoming benefit," said Jennifer Martinez, Manager at FEBC. "Especially if it's for your kids' favorite restaurant, or your neighborhood movie theater."

FEBC members who use this benefit will be given access to a mobile app where they can download coupons for discounts on major brands and businesses throughout the country. The mobile app primarily gives discounts for restaurant, shopping, and entertainment businesses. Since so many Americans visit these businesses anyway, discounts on them might offer the perfect chance for savings on frequent purchases. Members simply present the digital coupon at time of purchase and can save the coupon for multiple uses in the future.

The beginning of the year is a great time to start new habits, and 2018 is upon us. FEBC encourages users of this benefit to choose to divert their savings toward a greater purpose. Whether saving $20 or $200 per month, FEBC members might find automating their savings makes saving less painful to do and more likely to happen. Setting up an auto-pay feature on a bank account to drop money into one or more savings accounts on a monthly, or even weekly, basis ensures any extra funds get set aside and are not spent.

Regular saving can quickly form a small cushion or, coupled with wise investment, steadily build the foundation for a healthy retirement fund.

"A little bit of savings can take the pressure off, giving a little breathing room," said Martinez. "And people can easily meet their 2018 resolutions and save for much bigger things in the future while still doing the things they like and have fun doing today."
