Government of Canada modernizing environmental response equipment for Canadian Coast Guard

OTTAWA, Dec. 22, 2017 /CNW/ - Through the Oceans Protections Plan, the Government of Canada is working to improve our country's capacity to prevent and respond to marine pollution incidents. This will help achieve a world-leading marine safety system that keeps Canada's waters and coasts safe and clean for today and the future.

An important part of this Plan is ensuring the Canadian Coast Guard has the modern equipment it needs to lead the response to marine pollution incidents in Canadian waters.

To achieve this, the Government of Canada is soliciting bids for new environmental response equipment to contain and remove oil and other contaminants from the water in the case of a spill.

This will be the first equipment acquired under the Environmental Response Equipment Modernization initiative of the Oceans Protection Plan. The equipment will include curtain booms, high-speed sweep systems, and small, portable multi-cassette skimmers.

The Environmental Response Equipment Modernization initiative will bring the Coast Guard in line with and beyond current standards regarding environmental spill response and take advantage of innovations and advancements in technology.
