Sunshine Innovation's Multi-Use Flotation Design Helps Individuals With Special Needs, Will Attend Surf Expo 2018

GOODYEAR, Ariz., Dec. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Small Business Owner, Doug Masi, had a fun vision. "My mission is to get America floating again ? one person at a time." Masi declared at a recent expo held in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, "Everyone, from seniors to handicap children, should be able to enjoy the benefits of floating."

Sunshine Innovations Multi-Use Flotation Device enjoyed by all ages, will be attending its first Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida, Jan. 25-27 2018.

What do you do when you or someone you know is not able to float or feel comfortable in the water due to the type of flotation previously available or their personal disabilities?

A new innovation in flotation, the Float'n & Boat'n Thang® or Float'nThang for short (social media #FloatnThang), is designed and distributed by Sunshine Innovations. This multi-use device is commonly used as a paddle board seat, a temporary boat fender, as well as a personal flotation. Now it's helping parents and children around the water.

Michelle, the mother of a handicapped child named David, loves to see her son enjoy activities that gets him out of the wheelchair. David has been severely handicapped since birth with cerebral palsy. Playing in the pool is fun, however, with previously used flotation devices, it was mandatory for Michelle to hold him constantly, so he didn't tip forward. "Typical floating devices were either too small or too large for David to float in," said Michelle. She decided to test the Float'nThang out and was blown away by how well it supported David. "He was independently able to float and move around on his own. Until now, we have never come across a flotation device that provided David the ability to stay upright as well as to move his arms and legs so freely. Not only did the Float'nThang change this water play activity for David, it also allowed me independence while in the pool. Its design supports David without the issue of him tipping forward or falling through the center. One typical option for special needs children has been a life vest, but we've found it often bunches up around his neckline, and he tends to slip down where the water is almost at his chin and mouth area. The Float'nThang keeps him several inches higher and alleviates that situation."

Michelle also states, "Those of us who are parents of these special children know we would do anything to accommodate their needs, to ensure they don't miss out. However, fun for them could mean lots of extra work for their parents. I have learned to be his legs, and his voice, as well as his advocate and caretaker. Some days these roles are more taxing than others, but today, with the help of the Float'nThang, it was just so refreshing being enabled to just be David's water playdate!" Michelle is so excited that she would like to let other moms and dads with special needs children have the same enjoyment as David had with the Float' n Thang. She is starting a site called www.HISKids.Life.

With special needs children who might require more trunk support, it's suggested attaching industrial Velcro to couple both life vest and the Float'nThang.

"Although the Float'nThang was not designed to benefit any specific population, watching David and Michelle exchange laughter as they engaged in water play for hours, was a proud accomplishment", said Masi. "Photos and video of David can be viewed on our website https://pfdthang.com/davids-story (David Enjoying his Float'n & Boat'nThang). It's so exciting to see the response to our new Multi-Use Personal Flotation Device. Photos of a young boy named Zion, using the Float'nThang as far away as Hawaii, can be viewed on the Float'nThang Instagram page. (Instagram FloatnThang Photo of Zion)." Adam, Zion's father, said, "The Float'nThang is giving him amazing confidence in the ocean. I think every child around the water should have one. We, at The Float'n & Boat'n Thang® agree." Read More here: PFDThang.com
