Media advisory - National Hockey League's Hart Trophy, along with Hockey Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur, will be at Library and Archives Canada


OTTAWA, Dec. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Jewish Experience invite the media to a special event to celebrate hockey and the Hart Trophy.

For one day only, sports fans will be able to see one of the most prestigious awards in professional sports, the Hart Trophy, and have a photo taken with it. The trophy is awarded to the most valuable player during the regular season in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Guy Lafleur, the former Montreal Canadiens great and Hockey Hall of Fame legend who twice won the Hart Trophy, will be present and available to answer questions from the media.

At the event, Andrew Ross, an archivist at Library and Archives Canada and an expert on the history of hockey in Canada, will discuss the very Canadian origins of this trophy; the original was given to the NHL by the Hart family, who are descendants of the first Jewish settler in Canada. Mr. Ross will also talk about the connections between the trophy, the Ottawa Senators, the Montreal Canadiens, and the First World War.

Hockey fans will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the trophy in the main lobby of 395 Wellington Street between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
