The Forex Peace Army Editor Says Publicity Is The Best Way to Deal With SLAPP-Type Legal Threats

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ForexPeaceArmy.com is the largest forex review site providing traders with the platform to share their experiences with forex services since 2006. Often, traders complain about unfair practices by forex companies.

The Forex Peace Army often sees companies try to hide factual information they don't like. Sometimes it's an angry client complaining about a real issue. Sometimes the companies even try to hide simple facts by issuing legal threats against their client or ForexPeaceArmy, hoping that this will make the undesirable information disappear.

To file an actual lawsuit in a case like this is what it known as a SLAPP Suit. SLAPP stands for Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation. Some large companies realize that they are unlikely to win a lawsuit, but also know that the other side has far less money to defend, so will be likely to comply with the demands of the suit.

Similarly, a threat of a SLAPP-type lawsuit can be used to try to frighten a reviewer, a forums member, or Forex Peace Army employees into removing factual information a company wants hidden.

Bill King, who is in the Forex Peace Army's site editor says, "Most companies just threaten to sue. A few will hire lawyers to make the threat. Very few will ever risk filing a case, since this would put them at risk of the defense presenting evidence proving the claimed defamation or other charge is based on actual facts before a court."

"Instead, these companies hope is that a strong enough sounding threat will convince either their clients or else ForexPeaceArmy.com to remove information no matter how strong the evidence is. They think they can use words like 'lawsuit' as a magical method to make inconvenient facts disappear."

According to Bill, ForexPeaceArmy used to get a few threats per year. In the last few years, the number of threats has been increasing as some companies have chosen to be more aggressive in their attempts to hide facts.

When Bill explains Forex Peace Army's policy of publicizing legal threats, he reports that most companies back down and agree to discuss issues. Bill says that a few companies which don't believe him are surprised to find their legal threats published. Bill says he believes that the best defense against SLAPP-type threats is to let Forex Peace Army readers know which companies resort to this kind of tactic.
