LocumTenens.com Launches Medical Resident of the Year Award


ALPHARETTA, Ga., Dec. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical residents, immersed in one of the most demanding stages of their medical training, play a significant role in the United States health care system, providing care to patients in hospitals and clinics across the country. To recognize their vital service, LocumTenens.com is launching a Resident of the Year Award. The company will select one exemplary resident to receive the award, a $5,000 cash grant.

The U.S. could face a shortage of between 40,800-104,900 physicians by 2030, according to a 2017 study conducted for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) by IHS, Inc. As the population ages and more physicians near retirement, the U.S. needs more young physicians to replace the workforce.

"While residents are entering the medical field ready to serve patients, many struggle with financial burden that comes with medical training," says Jeannie Smith, associate vice president at LocumTenens.com. "We want to honor an exceptional resident and say thank you for his or her dedication to patient care by easing their medical school debt."

Nominations can be submitted through Dec. 31, 2017, by entering information at http://email.locumtenens.com/residentoftheyear. Any physician who is currently in a resident program in the United States is eligible. Self-nominations are also accepted. The winner will be announced in January 2018.
