Thought Leaders Convene to Navigate the Global Health Landscape

WASHINGTON, Dec. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Today, representatives from over 100 diverse agencies and organizations operating across the global health spectrum will come together at Global Health Council's (GHC) Global Health Landscape Symposium 2017, A New Normal for Global Health: Navigating Today's Challenges and Opportunities, in Washington, DC. Following recent and rapid changes in the international development field?to which global health is no exception?the Symposium will provide space to take stock of the present, look to the future, and define collective action moving forward.

"This year's Symposium is an opportunity for the global health community to come together and reflect on the successes and challenges of the past year, and how we continue to work towards our ultimate goal: healthy communities around the world," stated Loyce Pace, GHC President and Executive Director. "The discussion isn't just about budget cuts or policy changes, but how we build stronger partnerships, find new sources of financing, and work across the development spectrum. We are excited to have these discussions with the global health community."

Dr. Bill Steiger, Chief of Staff at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi and Founder of the Joyce Banda Foundation, are featured keynote speakers who will provide remarks on what works across sectors and agencies and how trends in areas such as impact investing, mobile technology, and fragile states could change the way we do business in global health.

Over the past decade, we have seen great strides made in the area of global health and we are now in reach of an AIDS-free generation and ending preventable maternal and child deaths. However, challenges such as fiscal constraints across all donors and a reorganization of U.S. federal agencies, have changed the landscape of how organizations, the private sector, and donors work in global health. The Symposium aims to leverage lessons we have learned in 2017 to ensure we continue to reach these milestones and more, as well as encourages elevating best practices from across issues and sectors.

The Symposium is sponsored by corporate and non-profit leaders including Pfizer; CORE Group; Save the Children; United Nations Foundation; American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH); Devex; Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; Global Impact; and Novo Nordisk.
