The Salvation Army Western PA Division's Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Donations Down Nearly $64,000 Compared To Last Year

CARNEGIE, Pa., Dec. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two weeks in after the official start of The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Christmas Campaign, figures are down considerably as compared with the same time period last year.  Of the 38 locations reporting, only 11 are on pace or ahead of totals from the same period last year.  With the cost of providing service escalating as well as increased need, the public's support is desperately needed.  There are only 3 weeks left in the campaign, and thus far the division has raised $770,581.90, which represents only 28% of its goal of $2,730,000.  Needs are great throughout the division, and there are five locations that are currently at less than 20% of their goal including Braddock, Bradford, Greenville, Pittsburgh Westside and Warren.

In addition to individual contributors dropping money in those bright red kettles, The Salvation Army is hoping for some additional support from the business community at this time of year to give the campaign the boost it needs.  "We are so thankful for the many individuals and businesses who support The Salvation Army throughout the year and who have given to this year's Christmas Campaign.   Particularly at this time of year, we pray that more and more corporations and donors will feel the need to help their neighbors who are struggling," said Major Deb Sedlar, Divisional Commander for the Western Pennsylvania Division of The Salvation Army, "In addition to financial assistance, businesses can help by providing volunteers to serve as bell ringers at kettles, or collect donations for The Salvation Army via online red kettles."  For more information on how to set up an online kettle, please contact Divisional Director of Fundraising, Lauren Brant at 412.446.1644 or [email protected].  Those wishing to volunteer can contact their local Salvation Army or in Allegheny County, call Jennifer Brown 412.446.1548 or contact her via email at [email protected].

Major Thomas Lyle, Allegheny County Coordinator, encourages those who may be shopping online and not visiting our kettles out in the community, "Please remember that time-honored tradition of giving to The Salvation Army at Christmastime, even from the comfort of your couch.  You can give to our online red kettle at: redkettlereason.org.  You will be blessed by knowing that those who are less fortunate will be helped because of your generosity."
