Panoply Media's New Series "Battle Scars" Shares Powerful Stories from Veterans

NEW YORK, Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Some war stories never make the news or history books, but they're major events that forever change the lives of those involved. On each episode of Panoply Media's new podcast, Battle Scars, host and former soldier Thom Tran talks to fellow veterans of our most recent wars. 

Tran enlisted in the Army when he was 18 and was awarded the Purple Heart in 2003 after he was shot in the back of the head during a firefight in Iraq. Tran ultimately retired due to his injuries in 2005. Comedy became Tran's therapy after combat, so he's made it his mission to bring comedy to deployed soldiers with his group, The GIs of Comedy.

With Battle Scars, Tran encourages other veterans to open up about their experiences and share the sometimes sad, funny and action-packed stories with listeners. 

"As a stand-up comedian I literally have a stage and a microphone to tell my story of service in the Military, and even I am still learning that the healing doesn't happen unless you share those stories," said Tran. "Battle Scars is a stage that we can give to other veterans to tell their stories and subsequently begin or continue to heal."

Guests on this season of Battle Scars include: a teenage soldier left with horrific scars who turned his life around and became a TV star; a British medic who used his own body to shield a wounded friend from enemy fire; and an Indian-American woman who joined up to escape her abusive parents and follow her dreams.
